Offering comprehensive, individualized care for adolescents and adults with eating disorders
The Center for Eating Disorders at JGPH provides treatment for individuals 12 and older with complex eating disorders. We call eating disorders “complex” because each disorder has its own unique set of causes, symptoms and health risks, and every individual may experience the illness and the recovery process differently.
Everything we do is guided by our extensive experience and the latest research into the biological, psychological and social factors of anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder. Every one of our treatment approaches responds to the psychiatric and medical aspects of eating disorders, and is tailored to meet the individual needs of each patient and their recovery.
We acknowledge that recovery is hard work, so we’ve designed our center to make patients feel as comfortable, cared for, and as safe as possible while they work towards freedom from their eating disorder. Our facility, located on a spacious, beautifully landscaped suburban campus, is designed with the care and success of our patients in mind.
We also recognize that the hard work of recovery often extends beyond the individual, which is why The Center for Eating Disorders at Sheppard Pratt is committed to providing specialized treatment and support options for parents, caregivers, and all family members throughout the recovery process.
Care for Co-Occurring Mental Health Conditions #
Eating disorders are often tied to other underlying psychiatric issues, such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, and substance abuse. The Center for Eating Disorders is supported by the broad psychiatric expertise that can only be found at JGPH; our team is well-equipped to support individuals with co-occurring disorders.
We devote our knowledge and resources to assisting patients in achieving symptom blockade, identifying and targeting factors that serve in the maintenance of the illness and, over time, developing an understanding of what led them down the path to an eating disorder so that they may move forward in recovery.
