Federal Financial Conflict of Interest Policy, Forms, and Training

At John George Psychiatric Hospital (JGPH), we maintain the highest standards of research integrity by strictly adhering to the Federal Financial Conflict of Interest (FCOI) regulations. These policies are designed to ensure that the design, conduct, and reporting of research are not biased by conflicting financial interests.

1. FCOI Policy Overview

Our policy establishes a framework for identifying and managing potential conflicts. Key pillars include:

  • Mandatory Disclosure: All investigators must disclose any “Significant Financial Interests” (SFI) that could reasonably appear to be related to their institutional responsibilities.

  • Transparency: We require disclosure prior to the application for federal funding and updated disclosures annually or within 30 days of acquiring a new interest.

  • Management Plans: If a conflict is identified, the hospital develops a formal management plan to reduce or eliminate the risk of bias in the research.

2. Required Training

To ensure full compliance with federal law, JGPH mandates comprehensive training for all research personnel:

  • Initial Training: Must be completed by all investigators before engaging in any federally funded research project.

  • Retraining Cycles: Investigators must undergo retraining every four years to stay current with evolving federal regulations.

  • Immediate Training: Training is required immediately if an investigator is found to be non-compliant with the FCOI policy or management plan.

3. Forms and Documentation

Researchers are required to utilize standardized JGPH documentation to record and report financial interests:

  • Financial Disclosure Forms: Used to list all relevant financial entities, income, and equity interests.

  • Conflict Management Agreements: Formal documents outlining the specific steps a researcher must take to mitigate a confirmed conflict

  • Training Certification: Records verifying that the investigator has successfully completed the required federal and institutional training modules.

4. Oversight and Compliance

All disclosures and training records are reviewed by our internal compliance team and are subject to audit by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and relevant federal agencies. This ensures that our commitment to pioneering psychiatry is matched by our commitment to ethical transparency.
