Adolescent Mood Disorders Unit

The adolescent mood disorders unit is a safe and secure 22-bed inpatient unit specially designed for adolescents ages 12 through 17 of all genders with anxiety disorders, trauma disorders, and other mood disorders.

Philosophy of Care #

Our focus is on safety and stabilization. We seek to provide a therapeutic environment for those in crisis. In our care, patients experience a warm, supportive, and welcoming environment and are encouraged to communicate openly about their problems.

Once initial evaluations and diagnostic processes are complete, the unit care team will develop an individualized treatment plan for the adolescent. This process occurs over the first several days. During each adolescent’s stay, we provide well rounded, structured groups and activities every day of the week. Depending on each patient’s unique treatment plan, we can offer individual and Group Therapy, psychoeducation for the patient and family, Medication Management, and group activities including yoga, art therapy, occupational therapy, team building exercises, life skill building exercises, therapeutic outings to the playground or gym, and more.

During each adolescent’s stay, we work toward crisis stabilization so that the adolescent can move back into their home community or on to a step-down level of care as quickly as is safely possible. The average length of stay on the unit is seven to ten days.

Who We Serve #

Our unit is purposefully designed to respect adolescents of different genders and sexual orientations. Potential patients are screened to ensure they are appropriate for this unique unit.

We treat adolescents with a variety of behavioral challenges and diagnoses on our unit; many have mood disorders like depression and anxiety, trauma disorders, Gender Dysphoria, or other psychiatric conditions.
